Mother News Editorial Dec-2015

Dear Friends
The recent catastropic deluge devasted the northern and Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu causing unprecedented damage to houses. Properties, rendering thousands homeless and killing hundreds of people. The nonstop rain has broken 100 years old record in Tamil Nadu and the raging waters cause huge damages to the houses, roads, schools. According to a research report since 1991, the Chennai city's concrete structures have been increased nearly 13 times and flood plains and open areas have been reduced by a fourth. The rain deluge damaged around 1.16 lakh huts and 17.4 lakh people evacuated to safer places. The reason for the huge damage is encroachment of the lakes and water bodies. According to a report, in 1980, bigger and medium lakes/water bodies were around 650, but in 2008 it has come down to mere 27 Nos. The 72 Km long Cooum river once considered as a holy river, now become the sewage career of the city with full of wastages and drainage water.
According to the metrological Department report Chennai received 149.77 cm of rain against the average of 64.9 cm between October 1, 2015 to December 2, 2015 , which caused immense flood, and marooned the houses, huts, factories, roads and vast areas in the Chennai city.
In this deluge, when the city was marooned, the people of the city manifested collective voice to reafirm faith in them in life and rendered mutual help and humanitarian support. The voluntary organizations, youths, broad minded citizens, combined together and extended their helping hand to render help to the suffering people. This empathy and compassion shown upon the victims saved several lives. Their wonderful service till continues in supplying food, dress materials, utensils for their rehabilitation. The army, the navy, the national disaster management team too were deplayed but the rescue operations hampered due to lack of proper coordination between the Govt. and these agencies.
"Our job on earth is to offer a helping hand, compassion and mercy. We are to do unto others, as we hope they would do unto us", says Dana Arcuri. Thiruvalluvar attributes,"Although an act of help done timely, might be small in nature it is truly larger than the world itself". This timely help rendered by our youths, the general public and the NGO's regardless of caste, community, or ethnicity helped to save the lives of thousands. They proved that we are in the world to support one another and helping others is the secret sauce to a happy life.
Let us lift our hands together and remember, one is for helping others, while the other is for helping you. Give a helping hand to whoever needs help. In the words of Mother Teresa, 'Love is not patronising and charity isn't about pity, it is about love. Charity and love are the same with charity you give love, so don't just give money but reach out your hand instead',
Yes, if people become more helpful to others, there will be much less tragedy in the world.
Let us unite ourselves and lend our helping hand to others so that a new chapter of love and compassion will engulf the entire world.

Dear Friends
Arrogance is the bigotry that a person entrenches in one’s mind unmindfully that causes a strong sense of entitlement. It is a feeling of superiority and pride manifested in an over bearing manner or behaving that comes from believing that one is better, smarter or more important than other.
Arrogance is a creature. It does not have senses, it has only a short tongue and the pointing finger. It is an extreme pride, which typically describes as a violent and excessive behaviour rather than an attitude. It is also an overestimation of one's own competence, accomplishment or capabilities, especially when the person exhibiting it as a position of power.
Aristotle defined it as shaming the victim, not because of anything that happened to a person or might happen to a person but merely for that person's own gratification. It also denotes over confidence and pride. It lack humility. According to Proverb, "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit  efore a fall". Adolf Hitler's pride ended with his down fall. What it implies is that everything has an end, nothing can remain the same.
Mikhail Gorbachev, the Russian Premier once said "Sometimes it is difficult to accept, to recognize one's own mistakes, but one must do it. I was guilty of over confidence and arrogance and I was punished for that".
Alexander the Great was the tragic case, once too much power concentrated in hands not strong
enough to use it constructively or wisely. Each successive conquest and the power and wealth that came with it bred arrogance in him, instead of caution, moderation and reflection. Because of his arrogance, he destroyed himself and believed that his success was confirmation of its cultural superiority over the rest of humanity. Arrogance can undermine the best achievements of the most brilliant leaders if they lack self control, and the discipline to remain focused on what is important and keep their success in perspective.
In Shakespeare’s King Lear, the play depicts arrogance as, Lear’s lack of foresight leads to his
downfall. The Fool, one of the characters in the play, repeatedly voices his concern over Lear's foolish
decision to divide the kingdom, without any foresight. He also attributes that there are two fools in the
kingdom, the first being the Fool and the other being Lear. In spite Lear never heeds his advice.
Leaders like Alexander the Great often have an inclination to rely on their instincts, and abilities instead of on objective information and analysis to conduct business. Seduced by their success and constant praise of those who surround them, they come to believe that they alone know what is best. They stop seeking, listening to and learning; hence they become rigid, authoritative, and no longer respective to feedback from subordinates in their organisations. When this happens, a corporate version of hardening of the arteries sets in, the flow of fresh ideas is slowed down; this usually ends in chaos.
Humility, modesty, unassumingness and humbleness are the true keys for success. Humility halts the arrogance and self indulging trap. Humble people share the credit and wealth, remaining focussed and hungry to continue in the journey of success.
“He who seeks truth shall find beauty. He who seeks beauty shall find vanity. He who seeks
order shall find gratification. He who considers himself the servant of his fellow beings shall find the joy of self expression. He who seeks self expression shall fall into the pit of arrogance” - Moshe Sadie.

Mother News Editorial October-2015

Dear Friends

Hatred, discord, jealously, fits of rage, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, etc. are not good qualities in life. Life is like a new grass which springs up in the morning and wither away in the evening.
Jealously is a complex of thoughts, feelings and actions which follow threats to self esteem and threat to the existence of the relationships, generated by the perception of a real or potential attraction between one's partner and rival. According to Spinoza, “Those who are believed to be most object and humble are usually most ambitious and envious.” Jealousy is forbidden by the laws of life because it is essentially destructive. It is cruel as the grave, it releases anger, and it is the greatest and the ultimate enemy of oneself.
Bob Marley attributes, “Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you are riding through the ruts, without complicating your mind, flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don’t burry your thoughts, But put your vision to reality. Wake up and live!”
It is important to keep the surroundings as well as self into a positive state, by making positive people surround you and negative and jealous people, away from you. It is said that more men die of jealousy than of cancer. The jealous are troublesome to others, but a torment to themselves. If you cannot love yourself, you will not believe that you are loved. You take your eyes off others and turn the scanner within, you will find the seeds of your jealously, clear the old voices and experiences, put all the energy into building your personal and emotional security. Then you will be the one others envy and you can remember the pain and reach out to them. Jealousy is like salt in the food. A little can enhance the savour, but too much can spoil the pleasure and under certain circumstances can be life threatening.
Shakespeare's play "Othello" is a typical illustration for jealousy which is largely driven by a grand love story filled with jealousy. Through the juxtaposition of Othello’s credulous nature and Lago's pernicious villainy (two characters) the image of jealousy is truly personified as an all-consuming "green eyed monster". Because of this venomous nature of the beast of jealousy, the events of the play manage to unfold in Lago's lustful authority, which bring down the eponymous character to his tragic downfall. He narrates jealousy as a beast with venomous nature, and the feelings of jealousy as a contagious disease which spreads and  spoils the human mind. Jealousy and envy lurks at the bottom of the human heart like a viper in its hole-says Honora de Balzac.
Let us not hate people who are jealous, but respect their jealousy because they are the ones who think you are better than them. When someone is hating you, it is not about you, it is about them, it is about their fear, their jealousy, their boredom and their insecurity. Hence, let us live in joy, peace, love, hope, humanity, kindness and truth, which are good qualities for a blissful living.

Mother News Editorial Sep-2015

Dear Friends
Fraternity means a structured society of men and women nested in an ambience of companionship
and brotherhood for the intellectual, physical, moral, religious, and social development. It implies all can mutually associate themselves for the beneficial purpose of the society.
Human life is interrelated and interdependent; hence it is essential for human life. Furthermore, these are the ways and credulous means through which we can build a just society which is full of peace, solidarity and fraternity. The family is the wellspring of all fraternity, and as such it is the foundation and the first pathway for the blossom of peace, since, by its vocation, it is meant to spread
its love to the world around it.
Fraternities can be organized from any purposes, including education, work skills, ethics, ethnicity,
religion, politics, charity, chivalry, personal conduct, asceticism, service, arts, etc. It may also be for explicit goal of mutual support in his/her endeavour. Epicureans valued fraternity very highly, it was
a form of friendship, the product of shared experience, and therefore an interpersonal relationship that
could live only in real communities. But, for Aristotle, it is based on the equivalent relationships among the absent ideas that inform things, and those characteristics we share with others and thrive within our communities, and those where the members cannot know each other, but they can recognize each other through the features they have in common. A common cultural background would make us co-national, being the same sex would makes us fellow men or women, sharing a certain age range would make us part of the youth, 'adults or the 'elderly' etc. The understanding of fraternity will determine whether we see it as the result of relationships among the common man in the society.
Hisalmar Branting says 'fraternity among nations, however, touches the deepest desire of human nature’. The goal of the European Union is to form a region of freedom and justice combined with fraternity and equality. The ideal of fraternity is friendship, peace, and universal understanding. Of late, we could see that lot of refugees throng to the European Union, where they get accommodated. This fraternity and friendship leads to prevail peace and tranquillity in the universe and bring a sense
of community. The sense of community connects oneself in a sense of affinity, which strengthens community bonds, we need to find a way to connect with others, establish a feeling of connectedness.
This connectedness emanates because of the same neighbourhood, or local region, or one can find with common personal interests.
The principles of French Revolution is liberty, equality and fraternity. We see now in the world  very kind of gun culture, terror, which ravaged the peacefulness and tranquillity in the nations. We could hear the sound of bombs and guns in various parts of the world. This is because of lack of friendship and fraternity among fellow citizens. In the name of religion wars are fought which ultimately result in human disaster.
Fraternity helps us live in solidarity against inequality and poverty that undermine the social fabric, to take care of every person, especially the weakest, and most defenceless, as well to love him or her, as oneself. Let everyone choose the pathway of fraternity to humanise the face of the world, a world that is constantly growing more interdependent, which serves to defeat the spread of global indifferences. Fraternity should spread its head in all speres of life including economy, finance, civil society, politics, research, judiciary, development, public and cultural institutions. It is the essential quality for all human beings. It is impossible to build a just society and lasting peace without fraternity.
Let us all build a society of good will and oneness to have a better world.

Mother News Editorial - August2015

Dear Friends
We, the Mother News Team, are overwhelmed by the positive responses and lots of praises by the readers of Mother News across the world. Mother News, a thought-provoking and an informative magazine, tries to transcend the world into a positive one. In this edition I would like to bring to your notice about the righteousness of humanity, and furthermore, how human beings should be righteous in their life in order to build a peaceful world.
According to Aristotle, “To righteousness, it belongs to be ready to distribute and to preserve ancestral customs and institutions and the established laws, and tell the truth, when interest is at stake.” First let our duties are to God, then to the country and then to the parents. It should accompany by holiness, truth and loyalty. One cannot do wrong and feel right at the same time. It is impossible. Therefore, life is a constant growth in righteousness, not in health, but in healing, not in being but in becoming, not in rest but in practice; it is not the end but it is the beginning.
Righteousness is doing the right thing. Those who dream for righteousness is blest, for they will find satisfaction in what they do, if not immediately at least after a while.
People of righteousness and faithfulness will be rewarded. Hence we have to love righteousness and hate wickedness in our life. For a ruler, righteousness and justice are the foundation of a throne where love and faithfulness go hand in hand. It will provide with glory and strength, and ensure graciousness and compassion and make life full of prosperity and honour.
Righteous persons will always abstain themselves from immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, slander, arrogance and folly. The Bible says that the righteousness of the wicked will be charged against them. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.
Righteousness, which is called rectitude or ethical conduct, is a theological concept in Hinduism, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc. It is an attribute that implies that a person's actions are justified and can have the connotation that the person is judged. The Quran says that a life of righteousness is the only way to make it to the Heaven.
Righteous people will always be virtuous, good, just, fair, moral, pure, ethical, upright, honourable, honest, equitable, law abiding and blameless. There are differences between righteous and the wicked. 'One choose light, the other darkness. One inspired, one disparaged, one spread hope and the other spread hate.
Let us be always righteous and teach others to be the same. Dalailama ascribes that righteousness brings empathy and compassion; generating the feeling of compassion will lead directly to greater level of personal happiness. Acting on the basis of that compassion will result in taking steps to overcome the problems of today’s worldly misconceptions and will eventually lead to a happier society as well as a peaceful world.
Let us sow the seed of peace and tranquility in the world by being righteous with a greater hope we will reap one day the fruit of our deeds.

Mother News Editorial - July2015

Dear Friends
“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the oceans are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty" –said Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of our nation. Human happiness increases Creativity, cognitive abilities, and resilience. Happy people are really successful in their life. Organizations that have got happy employees are also more successful and consistently demonstrate greater growth and profitability. Therefore, cultivating greater happiness in oneself, one's family, community and society at large will lead to a better prospective and peaceful living. It will also lead to oneness.
Compassion and caring for others’ welfare gives serenity of mind and heart. Human beings are naturally concerned for the immediate neighbours than the person who lives in a faraway place. Naturally, we feel more emotion for the death of a next door neighbour than for 100 persons in a faraway place. Hence oneness in society gives more strength to the human life. Society is not merely a select body of spiritual or intellectual persons, but a greater organism composed of all kinds of members, a web consisting both good and bad. According to Kofi Annan, “The happiness of any society begins with the well being of the families that live in it.” Society is in man and man is in the society. Inseparably, they are bound together. Hence, we should understand the humanity in its right perspective. A good person can make another person good, therefore, goodness will elicit goodness in the society. Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized onspiracy to oppress, rob, and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe, when human empathy lapses, there exist no growth and oneness in the society.
Society refers to the complex pattern of the norms of interaction or relationship that arise among the people. People exist only as an agent of social relationship. Mere congregation of individuals does not constitute society. Rather society refers to the complicated network of social relationship by which every individual is interrelated with his fellowmen. As such, society is abstract, not concentrate in nature. We cannot touch it but fill it because it resides in the minds of individual. A system of social relationship is the most important aspect of society and humanity. A social relationship, implies eciprocal awareness among individuals.
Recognising and understanding our social nature is not something that is merely of scientific interest, or of a matter of philosophy, religion, or academic theory but, rather something that is essential to our existence. As human beings we depend on one another for our very survival and are becoming even more interdependent and interconnected.
All people are like grass and all their glory is like the flowers of the field, the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the world endures forever. Therefore let us get rid of all malice, and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy and slander of every kind, and lead a peaceful life..

Dear Friends
Our concept of bringing out Mother News, journal is to change the society into a positive one. There are lot of factors which contribute to the deterioration of the present community . According to Dalai Lama, general lack of trust within a Community decreases community bonds, but growing Social isolation and decline in sense of Community lead to lack of trust. This can also be due to their family background financial situation, level of education, religion, culture, shared interests, ethinicity, language and so on. It is also due to lack of cultivating a sense of community, strengthening community bonds, or a feeling of trust and by succumbing to violence, racism, terror etc. Researches in the field of positive psychology and neuroscience reveal that positive emotions serve to promote a way relating to others based on what unites us more than what differentiates us. These emotions causes changes in our thinking that result in a tendency to percieve ourselves and others as being similar, which causes a direct shift in our outlook.
Emotion is an effective state of consciousness in which joy, sorrow, fear etc, is experienced that results in physical and Psycological changes which influences our behaviours. Extroverted people are social, and express their emotions, while introverted are more likely to be socially withdrawn and conceal their emotions. It is the driving force behind motivation, positive or negative.
Negative emotions like loneliness, envy, and guilt play a spoil part in ones life which needs change. If you want to live a life of worth living, a life that expresses your deepest feelings, and emotions andcares and dreams, you have to fight for it, says Alice Walker. Singing is a way of releasing an emotionand music moves your soul. Dance Communicates man's deepest, highest, and most truly spiritual  thoughts and emotions for better than words. Negative emotions like hatred destroy our peace ofmind.
Controlling the emotions can be difficult. First, we should be aware of our emotions, whether it is positive or negative; feelings are much like waves, we can't stop them from coming but we can choose which one to surf. Theworld is a tragedy to those who feel and comedy to those who think.
Experimental evidence shows that those in a happier frame of mind perceive members of other groups with less prejudice and hatred. As such, positive emotions play a vital role for the solutionof the societal problems. Of course it may not be a full panacea, but it can be one strategy that can contribute directly to personal happiness while at the sametime create ways of thinking and acting that would tend to reduce many of the problems in todays world.
Another way is increasing hope and optioning in the minds of the People, by looking at situationsfrom a wider perspective and reapraisal which can be used to reduce negative emotions and cultivatepositive emotions.
Meditation, practicing gratitude, and physical exercise can also increase positiveness. We cannot force to change the way of thinking or behaviours of an individual even if it will result in greater happiness for him and his family and contribute for a happier society, one in which there is less prejudice, hatred, conflict and violence. Yet, we can infuse positive thinking which holds great promise which can be used to help to overcome some of our societal or global problems, we face today.
It is proven that persons who have positive thinking, increasing happiness and positive emotionscause to be more altruistic, more charitable, more willing to reach out and help others, that brings
about social change and building a better world.

Mother News Editorial

Dear Friends
Since war begins in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that we must erect the ramparts of peace - The root of violence can be traced to the human mind, our destructive emotions and distortions of thinking emanates from it when one is under the influence of negative emotions like anger, hatred, fear, extreme attachment and greed, this tends to open him up to mental projections and distortions of thinking which obscure him from truly understanding the reality of the situation, and this can lead to greater conflict. Emotions like anger and hatred are at the very core of violence and emotions like fear are inextricably bound to these kinds of problems. Ofcourse fear is not only a pervasive state of mind in todays uncertain world, as a result of things like threat of terrorism, aggression which the people would react of fear. Other factors are conditioning and situational circumstances plays a big role in violence. This comes from the values or messages one receives from the wider level of society, from the leaders, the media, educational system, one's family etc. So there may be a variety influences from the particular environment or situation around a person. WHO defines violence as "the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, which either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury. death, physicalogical harm, mal development or deprivitation. Violence may also erupt due to concentrated poverty, income and gender inequality, the harmful use of alcohol and the absence of safe, stable and nurturing relationship between children and parents. In the year 2013 alone globally violence caused the death of 1.13 million. In USA gunfire kills 10 children a day. For each single death due to violence, there are dozens of hospitalisations, hundreds of emergency department visits, and thousands of doctors' appointments. Further more violence often has life long consequences for physical and mental health and social functioning and can slow economic and social development. Mahatma Gandhi preached that humans are capable of eliminating individual violence and organizing societies through purely non violent means. Violence can be catogrised as, self-directed, interpersonal collective, physical, sexual, physicological or emotional violences. It include violence, a person inflicts upon himself or herself, inflicted by another individual or by a small group of individuals, inflicted by larger groups such as states, organized political groups, militia groups, and terrorist organizations. In the world war I the casualities were 40 milliom and in world war II, it was over 70 million. As per a 2014 data, per year 4,75,000 homicide deaths are reported globally, 1 in 4 children has been physically abused, and 1 in 3 women has been victim of physical sexual intimate partner violence, honor killing, dowry violence acid throwing, forced marriage, mob violence, stalking, sexual harassment, human traficking, forced prostitutions female infanticide, prenatel sex selection are other kind of violences. Mahatma Gandhi says, I object violence because, when it appers, to do good, the good is only temporary, the evil it does is permanent. Further violence is like a weed- it does not die even in the greatest drought. It will erupt again. Pope John Paul II, attributes,'social justice caanot be attained by violence, violence kills what it intends to create. Mother Teresa spread love and served the society. True love will wipe out the ruins of violence and oppression from the human bearts, and do what is just and right. So let us wither away violence and be a role model to the society
